Casino Room is closed. Ellmount Gaming, the Maltese company that ran it from 2005, shut the brand on 8 April 2022 after seventeen years, and casinoroom.com is now a review site for US sweepstakes casinos with no connection to the casino. There is no British licence behind the name today and, as far as the record shows, there never was one. If you are searching for a CasinoRoom review because you want to sign up, there is nothing to sign up to. If you had an account, the section at the end covers what is realistic. Our score: 5.5 out of 10.

What Casino Room was

Casino Room opened in 2005 and by its final winter it was a mid-sized international casino with a lobby of around 1,350 slots, 46 live dealer tables and a jackpot section built around Mega Moolah. The front page in autumn 2021 led with Lightning Roulette, Crazy Time and a branded Casino Room Live Blackjack table from Evolution, alongside Starburst, Book of Dead, Gonzo’s Quest Megaways and the usual NetEnt, Play’n GO and Pragmatic Play catalogue. Casino Guru’s provider list for the site ran to thirteen suppliers, including Microgaming, Yggdrasil, Thunderkick, ELK and Betsoft.

casinoroom.com on 12 October 2021, six months before it closed.

The site was built for Scandinavia and Canada rather than Britain. The offer was priced in dollars and euros, the footer listed Swedish, Finnish and Norwegian language versions, and Swish and Interac sat in the cashier alongside the usual cards and e-wallets. There was a French-Canadian edition at /fr-ca/. Nothing in the archived footers from 2017, 2019 or 2021 mentions the Gambling Commission, a UK licence number or Great Britain, and the register today has no entry under either name. That matters for the “was it legit” question: for a British player it was never a licensed option, so any winnings or disputes sat outside the Commission’s reach from the start.

The welcome offer and its terms

The last version of the welcome offer, live in March 2022, was 100% up to €1,000 plus 100 free spins. The version before it, in early 2021, was 50% up to €100 plus 100 spins, so the headline had grown tenfold in a year while the small print stayed the same. The published bonus terms set the conditions that actually decided what the offer was worth:

  • Minimum deposit $10, with Skrill and Neteller deposits excluded from the bonus.
  • The 100 free spins arrived as 20 a day for five days.
  • Winnings from the spins were capped at $100.
  • 35x wagering on both the bonus and the spin winnings before any withdrawal.
  • Maximum bet of $5 a spin while wagering, and 60 days to complete it.

35x on a €1,000 bonus is €35,000 of turnover. That was legal in Malta and Sweden at the time, and it is more than three times what a UK site has been allowed to ask since the Gambling Commission capped wagering at 10x in January 2026. The €100 cap on the spins is the term that mattered most for small deposits: however the 100 spins ran, the most they could turn into was €100, and that still had to be wagered 35 times.

Payments and withdrawals

The cashier was one of the site’s stronger points. Sixteen methods were supported at closure: Visa, Mastercard, Skrill, Neteller, ecoPayz, Trustly, Klarna, bank transfer, Interac, Swish, MuchBetter, MiFinity, AstroPay, iDebit, Instadebit and eps. Withdrawal limits were €10,000 a week and €30,000 a month, with no win cap, which is generous by the standards of a casino that size.

What the limits did not show was how withdrawals ran in practice. Trustpilot reviews from the site’s final years describe a €400 per-transaction ceiling on withdrawals, so a €2,000 balance meant five separate requests. Verification was the other recurring complaint: documents accepted after several attempts, first withdrawals held until the checks cleared. One reviewer from July 2021 reported the opposite, £5,000 withdrawn one weekend and £1,700 more over the following fortnight without trouble. The pattern across the reviews is that once verification was done, payouts went through, but getting there could take weeks.

Games and software

The lobby was organised into slots, live casino, jackpot games, table games, scratch cards, bingo and, by 2022, virtual sports. The slots section listed 1,347 titles in early 2021, heavy on NetEnt, Play’n GO, Pragmatic Play, Red Tiger, Yggdrasil and Microgaming, with Megaways titles from Big Time Gaming and a Gigablox range from Yggdrasil. The jackpot section carried Mega Moolah and its variants, WowPot and Mega Fortune. Live dealer was Evolution throughout: Lightning Roulette, Lightning Blackjack, Crazy Time, Mega Ball, Monopoly Live, Deal or No Deal, Dream Catcher, Svensk Roulette for the Swedish market and the branded Casino Room Live Blackjack table.

A separate “bonus games” page listed which titles counted towards wagering, which is a detail many casinos hide. Most were Microgaming and Red Tiger slots such as Kings of Cash, Terminator 2 Remastered and Big Bucks Bandits Megaways. Everything else, including the live tables, did not count, so a player who took the bonus and played Lightning Roulette was not clearing anything.

How it closed

The first sign was in Sweden. Casino Room’s Swedish licence expired on 17 January 2022 and the site went dark there while a renewal was pending. The renewal never came. Eleven weeks later, on 6 April 2022, Ellmount’s news page carried an item headed “Closure of CasinoRoom.com”. It opened: “After an internal review of the business, the difficult decision has been made to close our long-standing brand, CasinoRoom.com. The intention is to close registrations this Friday the 8th of April 2022 pending all goes as planned.”

The Ellmount Gaming closure notice of 6 April 2022.

The rest of the notice is addressed to affiliates rather than players. Partners were told to “stop promoting casinoroom.com with immediate effect and remove all ads and reviews”, promised commission “up until the brand close”, and given two months of access to the affiliate system to collect their statistics. The invoice details named Ellmount Entertainment Ltd with a Maltese VAT number. There is not a line about player balances or how to withdraw them. Ellmount’s own website has since gone; ellmountgaming.com now fails with a certificate error, and the archived copy of the notice is the only surviving record.

The register on 17 September 2026

The Gambling Commission’s public register returns “No results” for both “Ellmount” and “casinoroom”, with no inactive, surrendered or lapsed entry. The Commission’s bulk licence file dated 16 September 2026 has no matching row in any of its tables: businesses, licences, domain names, trading names or addresses. Casino Guru, which tracked the site while it traded, lists its licences as Sweden and Malta only and marks it “Doesn’t accept players from United Kingdom”.

So there is no British licence behind anything calling itself Casino Room today, and there was not one while it traded. Our guide to UKGC licensing explains how to run the search and what the statuses mean when an entry does exist.

What casinoroom.com shows today

The domain was not abandoned. On 17 September 2026 its title reads “Online Casino Reviews in US 2026 | CasinoRoom”, the country selector is set to United States, and the page ranks McLuck, Hello Millions, Pulsz and other American sweepstakes casinos. Those brands take Gold Coins and Sweeps Coins rather than pounds and are aimed at players in the United States. Nothing on the page is for a UK customer.

The about page is candid about the switch: “In 2022, we made the strategic decision to shift our focus to affiliate marketing efforts within the gambling industry.” The homepage puts it more bluntly: “We pivoted from operator to independent reviewer in 2022”. The terms say the site “is not an online casino; users cannot play games, gamble for money, or conduct any financial transactions on the site”, and that data processing is subject to Maltese law. The contact page lists support@casinoroom.com. The footer copyright still says 2023.

The site does not name a company. The Maltese law line and the “we pivoted” wording suggest continuity with Ellmount, but that is inference. Treat it as an affiliate that happens to hold the old address, and if you land there from a UK search, close the tab.

Trustpilot

The Trustpilot page for casinoroom.com scores 2.4 from 63 reviews and shows the profile as claimed in November 2020, before the closure. The reviews split cleanly by date. Those from 2021 and early 2022 are about the casino: withdrawal ceilings, verification delays, bonus emails and phone calls pushing deposits, and one satisfied high-stakes player. Those from late 2022 onwards are about the review site that replaced it, or about old accounts the new site cannot help with. A 2.4 from 63 reviews is a small, stale sample; it tells you what the closing months were like and nothing about the domain’s current owner.

How we scored it

Safety 6: the operator was licensed in Malta and Sweden and closed in an orderly way rather than vanishing, but it was never licensed in Britain and its own website is gone. Games 5: a strong lobby while it traded, none of it available now. Payments 5: a wide cashier and high limits on paper, undercut by the €400 per-withdrawal ceiling and verification delays players reported, and no route to funds today. Support 5: no working player contact exists. The overall 5.5 reflects a closed casino with a clean closure and a reused domain, which is where most of the brands in this position land.

Where it sits in our other reviews

Casino Room also comes up in our Lucky Mister review and our Bingo Barmy review. Ellmount ran no other brand for UK players, so there are no Casino Room sister sites still trading. If a site tells you it is one, ask which licence it is on and check the register.

What to do if you had an account

If you had money at Casino Room in April 2022 and did not withdraw it, you are more than four years on and the company’s website is gone. The closure notice gave affiliates two months to collect what they were owed, and nothing published says players were given longer. The only first-party addresses in that notice were affiliates@ellmountentertainment.com and invoices@ellmountgaming.com, both published for partners in 2022, and there is no evidence either still works. If you still have old emails from the casino, the address they came from is the best starting point, and keep a note of what you send and when. Do not contact the current casinoroom.com about an old balance; its terms say it is not a casino and handles no financial transactions.

Check that your GAMSTOP self exclusion is still in place if you used it while playing at Casino Room. It follows you rather than the brand, but confirm it. A closure is also a sensible moment to look through any other accounts from the same period you may have forgotten.

If you see an advert for a new Casino Room, check the register first. Ellmount is not on it and never was, so any such site is either a different company using the name or not licensed in Britain at all. Either way, it is not the casino that closed in 2022.
